It was another successful trip to the ITF Super-Seniors World Team Championships in Umag, Croatia, for Team USA.

For the second consecutive year, the U.S. won three of the eight cups contested during the ITF Super-Seniors, the Davis Cup and Fed Cup equivalent for the 65-, 70-, 75- and 80-and-over age groups.

The U.S. swept the 80-&-over category, winning both the Gardnar Mulloy Cup and the Doris Hart Cup. The men’s squad (pictured)  defeated Australia, 2-1, paced by lopsided singles wins for Lester Sack and King van Nostrand. In the women’s 80 & over, Burnett Herrick and Carol Wood won their singles matches in straight sets to clinch a 2-1 victory over Great Britain.

Rounding out the American champions were the women’s 75-&-over team, which defended its Queen’s Cup title with a 3-0 victory over France. Donna Fales and Charleen Hillebrand combined to lose just three games over four sets in their singles victories, and Suella Steel and Sheila Weinstock polished off the tie with a three-set doubles win.

Also in Umag, the Team USA men’s 65-&-over team finished in third place in the Britannia Cup, and the women’s 65 & overs came in third in the Kitty Godfree Cup. Rounding out the U.S. efforts, the men’s 70 & overs were seventh in the Jack Crawford Cup, the men’s 75 & overs were fifth in the Bitsy Grant Cup and the women’s 70 & overs were seventh in the Althea Gibson Cup.

In 2015, Team USA won titles in the Kitty Godfree, Queen’s and Doris Hart Cups.
