After a busy and highly competitive weekend of tennis, two teams were crowned champions at the USTA League Mixed 18 & Over 7.0/9.0 National Championships in Tucson.
In 9.0 action, the Texas section team from El Paso saved its best tennis for the final by sweeping the Mid-Atlantic section team from Washington, D.C., 3-0. Earlier in the day, the El Paso players advanced to the championship match with a narrow victory over the Northern California section team from San Francisco, 2-1.
The Southern section 7.0 team from Atlanta showed its fighting spirit with a tight win in the championship match over the Middle States section team from Washington Crossing, Pa., 2-1. The Atlanta squad had an equally challenging semifinal win earlier in the day over the Midwest section team from Niles, Ill. 2-1.
