Mike Bryan added another milestone to his already stellar list of accomplishments, winning his 1,000th career match Wednesday to become just the fifth men's player in history in either singles or doubles to earn 1,000 wins.

Bryan accomplished the feat by teaming with his twin brother Bob to defeat David Goffin and Lucas Pouille, 6-2, 6-3, in the first round of the Gerry Weber Open in Halle, Germany.

Bryan, 38, joins an elite group of players who have reached the 1,000-win milestone, including singles players Jimmy Connors, Roger Federer and Ivan Lendl and doubles specialist Daniel Nestor, who achieved the feat earlier this year.

Bob Bryan is closing in on 1,000 wins, as well, and needs just 14 more victories to achieve the feat.

A native of Camarillo, Calif., Mike Bryan has won 114 career doubles titles – the most titles ever in either singles or doubles – and owns a career won-loss record of 1,000-304. He has won 16 Grand Slam titles, finished No. 1 in the year-end doubles rankings (with Bob) a record 10 times and has ranked No. 1 in the individual doubles rankings a record 454 weeks.

The Bryans are the only team in the Open era to win each Grand Slam title at least twice. The brothers completed a "Golden Bryan Slam" in 2013, when they captured the gold medal at the London Olympics in 2012 and then won four straight Grand Slam men's doubles titles. They fell just short of winning the first calendar-year Grand Slam since 1951 when they lost in the semifinals of the 2013 US Open.

Mike and Bob Bryan are also the winningest doubles team in U.S. Davis Cup history and will likely represent the United States next month in the quarterfinal-round tie against Croatia in Portland, Ore.
