Four teams crowned champions at the 55 & Over 7.0/9.0 Nationals

SURPRISE, ARIZ. – A jam-packed weekend of tennis came to a close on Sunday as four section teams won titles at the USTA League Adult 55 & Over 7.0/9.0 National Championships, held at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex.

The women’s tennis team from Charlotte, N.C., representing the USTA Southern Section, captured the 9.0 national title, defeating the Texas team from Dallas, 2-1, in the championship match. Earlier in the day, Charlotte defeated the Eastern squad from Greenwich, Conn., 2-1, in the semifinals. 

In the women’s 7.0 bracket, the winning team from La Quinta, Calif., representing the USTA Southern California Section, captured Nationals after taking down the Eastern team from Rye Brook, N.Y., 2-1. 

The USTA Northern Section’s men, from Saint Paul, Minn., captured the 7.0 national title with a 2-1 victory over the Southern California Section team from San Gabriel Valley in the championship match. Earlier in the day, the Northern team defeated the New England representative from Beverly, Mass., 3-0, in the semifinals. 

Southern California produced another winner in the 9.0 division, with Orange County defeating the Mid-Atlantic team from Fairfax, Va., 3-0, in the final.
