Caribbean women, Texas men win 3.0 Nationals

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The Texas section men’s team and Caribbean section women’s team had plenty to celebrate on Sunday by capturing national titles at the USTA League Adult 18 & Over 3.0 National Championships, held at the Surprise T&R Complex.

In a thrilling men's final, the Texas team from Dallas squeezed past a solid Southern team from Atlanta, 3-2, to clinch the USTA League Adult 18 & Over 3.0 National Championships. In semifinal action earlier in the day, Dallas scored a 5-0 sweep against the Southern California section team from San Gabriel, Calif., to move into the championship match.

The Southern California team finished in third place by winning its playoff match over the Mid-Atlantic section team from Howard County, Md., 3-2.

On the women’s side, the Caribbean section team from San Juan, P.R., had a joyous on-court celebration after winning the final over the Mid-Atlantic section team from Loudoun, Va., 3-2. The Puerto Rican women made it into the championship match with a 4-1 semifinal win earlier in the day over the Pacific Northwest section team from Seattle. 

The Pacific Northwest women ended its run in third place, scoring a 3-2 victory over the New England section team from Stamford, Conn.
