John Isner was up first on Day 3, facing off against top-ranked Australian Bernard Tomic.

Isner served well throughout the match, pounding 49 aces. He also produced the fastest serve in tour history, with one of his offerings registering at 157 miles per hour.

In the end, Isner's serve and all-around game proved too much for Tomic, with the American claiming a 6-4, 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 victory that delivers the U.S. into the Davis Cup quarterfinals for the first time in three years.
