USTA Southern is celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to recognize the Latino culture, heritage and contributions American Hispanics have made to the nation. Here are tennis programs that are growing Hispanic participation and membership:
The Northeast Georgia Tennis Association (NEGTA) hosted two Play Days in Gainesville in conjunction with Georgia Tennis Day on Oct. 3. One of the Play Days was hosted at the Boys and Girls Club where a Hispanic youth tennis program has been in place since the summer, while the other Play Day was hosted at Brenau University.
USTA Kentucky is hosting a Junior Team Tennis schools league that started the week of Oct. 2. In the league’s second year, schools with a high percentage of Hispanic students were invited to participate. Also, Paducah Area Tennis Association, Frankfort Tennis Association and Georgetown Tennis Association will be starting programs targeting their Hispanic populations while partnering with churches, schools, community centers and other organizations.
